Christian Zimmer
Principal ConsultantDr. Christian Zimmer is Principal Consultant and joined Consentec in 2002. He is a leading expert in the field of power economic and engineering issues, ranging from incentive regulation for distribution network operators to congestion management and market design for cross-border power trade. Christian has advised network operators, energy suppliers as well as industry associations and authorities. Between 1997 and 2002 he worked as a scientific staff member at the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics of RWTH Aachen University where he received his doctoral degree and afterwards was head of research group “network planning and operation“. His work focused on research and consulting projects relating to questions on power economics. Christian studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University and holds a graduation as Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.), his dissertation dealt with the consideration of cross-border power trade in operational planning of European transmission system operators.

Senior ConsultantSebastian Willemsen is Senior Consultant and joined Consentec in 2014. He holds a M.Sc. in Business Administration and Engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen), specialized in Electrical Energy Technology, from RWTH Aachen University. Sebastian’s work focuses on studies dealing with model-based analysis of power supply systems for public and industrial clients. On-the-job Sebastian has started his doctoral thesis in which he deals with the economic sense and design of location incentives for conventional and renewable generation plants.

ConsultantAnna Weiß is a consultant and has been working with Consentec since December 2019. Having studied at the Universities of Cologne and Tuebingen she holds a M.Sc. in Economics with the focus areas „Energy Economics“ and „Design and Behavior“. Among others, she was honored with the Dean’s Award for her outstanding academic achievements. Anna works on issues linked to the design of the German and European energy markets as well as the support and system integration of renewable energies. She also focuses on the regulation and financing of electricity and gas networks, on electricity market modelling and on congestion management in international electricity trading. Furthermore, Anna deals with forecasts regarding the system adequacy of distributing networks in the context of sector coupling.

Junior ConsultantMax Wertenbruch joined Consentec as a Junior Consultant in September 2022. He studied industrial engineering with a specialisation in energy economics and technology. During his studies, he intensively dealt with the economic efficiency of renewable energies and was supported several times by the Deutschlandstipendium. His Bachelor’s thesis on “A theoretical and numerical analysis of the Ranque-Hilsch Vortex tube” was awarded the Senate Prize of Hochschule Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences and published. His current focus is on the analysis and evaluation of future challenges for power grids due to the energy transition.

Junior ConsultantM. Sc. Maximilian Teske has been with Consentec since October 2024. He obtained his master’s degree in business and engineering with a technical focus on electrical power engineering at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. The economic focus of his studies was particularly in the field of energy markets. As part of his master’s thesis, he investigated options for the market integration of energy storage systems and quantified the impact of flexibility effects on market storage behavior and the overall system based on models. Further scientific work included questions in connection with the introduction of capacity markets and considerations regarding the suitability of CfDs for the promotion of renewable energies. The focus of his work at Consentec is currently on grid economics issues.

Principal ConsultantDr. Bernd Tersteegen is Principal Consultant and joined Consentec in 2011. He is an expert on European power market design as well as support schemes for and system integration of renewables. Furthermore, he is working on projects investigating long-term scenarios towards decarbonized energy systems including the expansion of RES-production in Germany and Europe. Bernd is also expert in the economic and technical assessment of power plant projects as well as the evaluation of various ways of marketing power plants. Furthermore, he is extensively experienced in the field of regulatory benchmarking of electricity and gas distribution network operators.
Before Bernd joined Consentec in 2011, he worked as a scientific staff member of the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics at RWTH Aachen University, and since July 2010 head of the research group “Electricity Generation and Trading”. He studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University and holds a doctoral degree (Ph.D.), his dissertation dealt with price uncertainties in the medium-term planning of power generation and trading.
Johanna Siekmann
Junior ConsultantJohanna Siekmann has been a Junior Consultant at Consentec since September 2022. Previous, she worked as doctoral researcher at Forschungzentrum Jülich institute for energy and climate – photovoltaic. Her research focus was on device physics of thin film solar cells. In 2018 Ms. Siekmann finished her studies in physics at RWTH Aachen University. With Consentec her focus are market simulations. Furthermore, Mrs. Siekmann has worked on projects for a developed tenant model applied for photovoltaics.

ConsultantDr. Moritz Schillinger is a Consultant and joined Consentec in November 2022. From 2014 until 2022, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Energy Economics at the University of Basel. He completed his Master of Science in Sustainable Development at the University of Basel and subsequently earned his PhD at the Faculty of Business and Economics on the future of Swiss hydropower. His current research focus at Consentec includes aspects of the European electricity market design, non-frequency ancillary services, and the hydrogen economy.

Since then, she has worked on software projects and studies in the field of planning and operations management of electricity supply. Prior to her present job Melanie worked as mathematical-technical assistant; she underwent her education at the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives of RWTH Aachen University.

ConsultantMoritz Maercks joined Consentec as a consultant in November 2022. He studied Business Administration and Engineering, specializing in electrical power engineering at RWTH Aachen University. During that time, Moritz already joined Consentec as a student assistant. As a scientific staff member at the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economic he gained many years of experience in quantitative analysis of energy systems in the research group “System Planning and Operation”. During that time, he acquired extensive theoretical and practical knowledge, especially about application, further development and new development of various software tools for solving complex problems in electricity supply systems. In addition to analyses based on steady-state simulation calculations, for example in market-network calculations and network planning, he developed models and processes for simulating electricity supply systems in the time range.

Senior ConsultantKarsten Lüdorf is Senior Consultant and joined Consentec in 2001. Much of Karsten’s work focuses on planning and operation of transmission system networks as well as on all questions of international electricity trading. Furthermore, he is highly experienced in model-based system studies, among others referring to questions on system adequacy and extension of the transmission system. He has managed a number of projects for national and international transmission system operators, energy suppliers, regulation authorities and federal ministries. Karsten is responsible for the development and expansion of software tools for network analyses and the continued service of Consentec’s transmission system model. He studied electrical engineering (diploma degree) at RWTH Aachen University.

Senior ConsultantChristian Linke is Senior Consultant and has been with Consentec since its foundation in 1999. Since he finished his studies in electrical engineering (diploma degree) at RWTH Aachen University Christian has been highly skilled on questions on analyzing and optimizing design and maintenance strategies of electricity and gas networks with view to costs and quality aspects. In this regard he has been responsible for many studies and expert opinions. Due to high importance for the design of power distribution networks Christian’s work focuses on questions concerning network and system integration of RES, particularly in the light of potential new technologies.

Senior ConsultantDr. Alexander Ladermann studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He is Senior Consultant and joined Consentec in 2003. His work focuses on analysis, optimization, operation and assessment of distribution networks for electricity, gas, water and district heating. On-the-job Alexander worked on his doctoral thesis. He holds a graduation as Dr.-Ing. (Ph.D.), his dissertation dealt with the advantages of interdisciplinary renewal of distribution networks for electricity, gas, heat and water supply. He has also been involved in the implementation of the software tool “Neos” for the analysis and optimization of distribution networks focused on asset simulation. Alexander is listed as an expert for certification of dispersed generation units to the authority for certification of FGH Zertifizierungsgesellschaft mbH.

ConsultantDavid Kemnitz is Consultant, he joined Consentec in 2007. David’s work mainly focuses on analyzing and optimizing electricity networks. He is highly experienced in procedures and development of network analyses and has successfully managed a number of consulting projects developing long-term, cost-efficient and reliable distribution network structures. After his apprenticeship as industrial engineer, David studied electrical engineering (diploma degree) at RWTH Aachen University.

ConsultantDr. Alexander Hobert joined Consentec as a consultant in December 2022. Previously, he was a research assistant at the Chair of Electrical Power Supply Technology (EVT) at the University of Wuppertal from 2017 to 2022. Here, he completed his doctorate at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology on the topic of “Analysis of flexibility options the electrical energy system of urban districts”. He studied industrial engineering with a focus on energy management (SRH-FH-Hamm) and energy management (University of Wuppertal) and graduated as a Master of Science in 2017. Alexander Hobert has more than 5 years of professional experience in the analysis and evaluation of grid and energy management contexts through numerous research and consulting projects. This has given him in-depth knowledge in the development and application of simulation models for energy systems and grids.

ConsultantTom Dröscher is Consultant and has been working at Consentec since November 2019. He studied Business Administration and Engineering Electrical Energy Technology at RWTH Aachen University. As part of his master’s thesis, he quantified the influence of the controllability of heat pumps and electric vehicles on grid expansion costs of smart grids. At Consentec, he is currently working on issues related to grid and system integration of RES as well as to operation management of transmission systems .

Junior ConsultantJonas joined Consentec as Junior Consultant in July 2023. He studied general mechanical engineering specialized in simulation technology. His master thesis analyzed the impact of hydrogen purity on building a climate-neutral energy system. At Consentec, he currently works on modeling energy generation from renewable sources as well as on dynamic electricity tariffs.

Senior ConsultantDr. Andreas Cronenberg is Senior Consultant and joined Consentec in 2010. Andreas studied at RWTH Aachen University and holds a Diploma in Business Administration and Engineering. During his study he gained extensive knowledge in various questions of power engineering. He has managed a number of projects in the field of transmission systems and electricity markets. His work includes projects focusing on network calculation and the coordination of smart markets as well as ancillary services in national and international projects committed by network operators, federal ministries and public authorities. On-the-job Andreas worked on his doctoral degree in the field of international cooperation on load frequency control reserves as well as the impacts on the national purchase, sizing and activation of control reserve.

Principal ConsultantDr. Philipp Baumanns is Principal Consultant and has been with Consentec since July 2020. Prior to that, he worked as a scientific staff member at the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics at RWTH Aachen University since 2014. There, he was head of the research group “System Stability and Security of Supply” and later became Chief Engineer. Philipp studied Business Administration and Engineering with a focus on Electrical Power Engineering at RWTH Aachen University and earned his Dr.-Ing. (Doctor of Engineering) degree in 2019 with his research on “Calculation of Probabilistic Parameters for Resource Adequacy in the European Energy Transition.” Dr. Baumanns advises grid operators, energy providers, as well as associations and authorities on topics related to congestion management and electricity market design for the international electricity trading, security of supply, and the market integration of offshore wind energy. He has more than 8 years of professional experience in quantitative electricity market and grid analysis and possesses profound knowledge in the development of energy scientific simulation tools as well as independent management of corresponding consulting projects.

Luise holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Münster University, and a M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Cologne. Her master thesis at the Institute of Energy Economics focused on economic and regulatory issues concerning electricity supply.

ConsultantMustafa Akgül works as a Consultant. He joined Consentec in 2017 after having completed the M.Sc. in Business Administration and Engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen), specialized in Electrical Energy Technology, from RWTH Aachen University. As part of his work at Consentec, he is primarily concerned with the model-based analysis of future requirements for power grids and the resulting technical and economic consequences for network operators. Other topics he deals with are questions regarding the evaluation and optimization of electricity networks or analyses in the context of security of supply. He has extensive knowledge in the application of common simulation software and the development of in-house developed simulation tools. On-the-job Mustafa has started his doctoral thesis in which he investigates the feasibility of automated support in planning the sequence of medium-voltage network restructuring measures.

Managing DirectorDr. Christoph Maurer has been a partner and managing director of Consentec GmbH since 2007.
He holds diploma degrees from RWTH Aachen University (electrical engineering) and FU Hagen (supplementary studies in economics) and received his doctorate from Prof. Haubrich at RWTH Aachen University. He also worked there for several years at the Institute for Electrical Systems and Energy Economics (IAEW), including as a chief engineer and head of the “Grid Planning and Operation” research group. In his work, he deals with system technology and economic issues in the field of electrical energy supply and the decarbonization of the energy system. He focuses on electricity market design, ensuring security of supply, the interface between the energy market and energy grids and the system integration of renewable energies.
At Consentec, Dr. Maurer is responsible for fundamental questions of energy policy and energy economics as well as transmission grid and power generation issues and advises public and private clients such as ministries and regulatory authorities, transmission system operators, energy suppliers and industry associations. Dr. Maurer is recognized throughout Germany and Europe as an expert on energy industry issues. He is the author of numerous expert reports and studies, has worked several times as an expert for the German Bundestag, state parliaments and the Federal Network Agency and is an active voice in the energy policy debate. He has a lectureship on “Grids and markets – system solutions for the energy transition” at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Managing DirectorDr. Wolfgang Fritz is one of the two managing directors and co-founded Consentec in 1999. Since then and beforehand as a scientific staff member as well as head of the research group “Network Planning and Operation” at the Institute of Power Systems and Power Economics at RWTH Aachen University, Wolfgang has extensively worked on engineering, economic, regulatory and energy policy issues related to electricity and gas supply. Focal points of his work have been arrangements and strategies for network and system operation, network planning, network access as well as revenue and tariff regulation in the transmission and distribution sector. Wolfgang studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University. He holds a graduation as Dr.- Ing. (Ph.D.), his dissertation having dealt with methods for optimization of electricity transmission grid operation. Wolfgang is particularly responsible for consulting projects, studies and expert statements relating to regulation, grid management and engineering issues in the field of electricity and gas networks at all transmission and distribution levels.
